TECHNICAL DIRECTOR (CTO)

Uniparts offerings to business has been significant historically, and has been an iconic in the UK.

The company working alongside Rover Group became known for its automotive connections as an OEM supplier of parts, and then also as aftermarkets parts supplier for automotive sector.

Unipart has seen the business develop under the leadership of John Neill (CEO) and key individual that has pioneered the growth of Unipart Logistics as the core business, but also Unipart Rail and Unipart Consulting as a business solutions provider and Unipart Manufacturing as a partner provider of value added services.

My support into Unipart to provide solutions into all business sectors, playing lead role in development of logistic solutions, innovations to the rail sector and most importantly to the consulting side of the business as focus on specific solutions to solve project matters for clients that have placed their business under our care. 

With global operations, and a leadership presence in a truly global fashion. The Unipart teams were based in strategic locations with business segments under my care.

The function extended to running services within Unipart for employee learning, and roll out of the well established 'Unipart Way'. It included also the business strategies for growth in the consulting segments as well as the technical forward solutions for environmental strategies in electrification and 'cost-waste' down in sustainable product innovations developed for Unipart and its business partners in rail and manufacturing.  

With my experience in materials, electronics, and manufacturing, the space to move Unipart technologies to the next level became very apparent, with solutions that would improve health and safety, and durability with results upto 700% improvement, and a 'cost vs value in service' showing 1000% benefits. 

The campaign for new product methods and benefits gained patents for the innovations and resulting products, but also recognition in the 'Unipart Innovations Award' for the year.

The main business sector to involve my capabilities were in the consulting segment.

Unipart stands within the top 4 of UK's businesses providing independent consulting support for productivity and transformational change.

 

Working with key automotive businesses like McLaren, Jaguar, Geeley, London Taxis, etc, gave Unipart the leading edge in 'cellular' value added off site production with vehicle components like door cards, door assemblies, and fixtures, assembled in sequence at Oxford site, Coventry and ready for transport and fitment at the clients final assembly line.

       

Working also with other commercial businesses, integrated into their business teams as members of the board, to support business growth and transformational progression within client teams.

The Uniparts rail ethos with maintenance based on schedule and necessity.

Unipart Manufacturing includes manufacturing or remanufacturing in Automotive, Rail or Aerospace sectors.

COMMERCIAL PROCUREMENT DIRECTOR (Assignment)

With experience in parts and material procurement the opportunity to demonstrate procurement methodology became a clear requirement.

Leading strategic pricing, material based pricing, and sourcing competitively was key for the success of the business. The secondment for 6 months proved that tactical reshaping of business methods and moving away from historic models could bring significant wealth.

 

Of the suppliers that had demanded price increases, the nett result was a decrease in price by a average of 12%, the resourcing of material brought a further 34% reduction in price, and the competitive model brought a 13% cost saving.  

 

Lead and creating vision, providing a strategic learning path to the business teams, developing a working method and process was mission critical. Seeing through the investment of effort with clear KPI's a demonstrated real message of productivity to ensure satisfaction and business profits.
